Hairy Woodpecker: Birdwatching Part 4

20Jul

hairy woodpecker

Hairy Woodpeckers are birds of mature forests across the continent. They’re also found in woodlots, suburbs, parks, and cemeteries, as well as forest edges, open woodlands of oak and pine, recently burned forests, and stands infested by bark beetles.

Our guest Frederick caught some images of this hungry bird in hunting mode.

Downy Woodpecker

Woodpeckah!

This super-hero-bird’s superpower is a jack hammering head (and a brain that doesn’t get scrambled).

Her mission is to rid the world of pests found inside trees, rotting wood and the tin flashing on your chimney at 5:15 am Saturday morning.

Our guest Frederick caught some images of this hungry bird in hunting mode.

The Geese Have Returned

03Aug

As with every late summer, the Canadian Geese and their spring babies have once again made the pond at Turtleback Farm their seasonal home. As with most years, they just dropped by with no notice.

We have to say they were pretty lucky the pond wasn’t already fully booked by a rookery of Great Blue Herons, a sord of Mallards or a gulp of Cormorants.

So be an early bird and make your late summer/early fall (or even 2018) reservations sooner rather than later!
